Equipment and Terminology Explanation:
EMF – Electro Magnetic Field, EMF measurements are measurements of ambient electromagnetic fields. High EMF can occur naturally in the presence of computer screens, cell phones or faulty wiring. However, sudden EMF spikes without electrical explanation can signal the presence of a paranormal entity. These spikes are indicated by the multi-color lights at the top of the meter.
EVP – EVP or Electronic Voice Phenomenon, is the capturing of disembodied voices onto audio recording equipment. Voices or noises that can be heard when later listening to a recording, noises that could not heard during the actually investigation.
Mel Meter - The ‘Mel Meter is a dual purpose combination unit that measures both EMF (Electromagnetic Field) and Temperature simultaneously on an easy to ready digital LCD
Orb - Visible translucent spheres of light which hover above the ground and dart erratically through the air. Many believe that ghosts prefer to take on an orb shape, as it requires less energy than other apparitions. They differ from those photographed in ghost scenes that show orbs as spherical lights (rather than a flickering flame), some with a nucleus, others transparent. This kind of orb is credited with being the reflected camera flash bouncing back to the camera lens from dust or moisture.
Spirit Box - It scans through radio frequencies to generate white noise which theories suggest give some entities the energy they need to be heard. When this occurs you will sometimes hear voices or sounds coming through the static in an attempt to communicate; much like an EVP, but with the ability to hear it in real-time.
Flashlight Trick - An ordinary twist on/off flashlight can be used as a communication tool to aid in talking with the unknown. Setup is simple, all you do is get you flashlight and twist the lens to where it is just barely off and takes very minimal effort to make the light come on. You then place the flashlight down on a surface and ask yes/no questions, explaining that if whatever is in the room can turn on the flashlight it will mean “yes”. When you get a light response you can then ask for it to turn the light back off so you can ask another question.
Full Spectrum - Regular cameras only capture visible light, which is the light that the human eye can see. Full Spectrum Cameras on the other hand are modified to photograph the entire light spectrum. This includes infra red light, ultra violet light and the visible light that we can see with our eyes.
Night Vision - A night vision device is an optical instrument that allows images to be produced in levels of light approaching total darkness. A night vision camera also allows the viewer to take advantage of using infra-red light to see more in darkness.
Trigger Object – A trigger object is an inanimate object such as a toy, personal belonging, or other object associated with the deceased, which is used to attract the entity’s attention or possibly capture the object in motion by creating possible physical contact of the object by the entity.
Residual Haunt: Residual hauntings are repeated playbacks of auditory, visual, olfactory, and other sensory phenomena that are attributed to a traumatic event, life-altering event, or a routine event of a person or place, like an echo or a replay of a videotape of past events.
Intelligent Haunt: In the terminology of ghost hunting, an intelligent haunting differs from a residual haunting, being a haunting in which a spiritual entity is aware of the living world and interacts with or responds to it. Ghost hunters and paranormal writers believe that such a ghost or spirit may be able to communicate with the living, not just by talking, but by moving inanimate objects such as furniture or toys.
